Art therapy is also occupational therapy or psychiatric occupational therapy. It’s proven to be a literal life-saver in my experience. When my brain is too tired to process language, as it is struggling right now, colors, texture, patterns and lines are a world I explore. It’s calming, creative and let’s me breathe. I’ve heard or read, and deeply believe it works — however it works, that it switches the brain to the other hemisphere, and anxiety, depression and other distressing conditions are alleviated because the brain can’t process that information at the same time.
