Autism a Focal Point of the 2009 Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting

This year’s annual five-day Society for Neuroscience meeting brought together over 30,000 scientists and autism science featured prominently on the agenda. Multiple sessions were devoted solely to autism spectrum disorders, placing the challenges and unique features of autism in front of tens of thousands of the world’s best thinkers.

$1M Grant Provides Stimulus to Autism Speaks’ Bioinformatic Infrastructure

Autism Speaks has received a $1 million grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These funds will help to build upon the bioinformatic infrastructure of Autism Speaks’ clinical programs, and will enhance the dissemination of large-scale genetic and clinical datasets generated by the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange and the Autism Tissue Program.

“Team Autism Speaks” Raises Over $560,000

In 2009, more than 180 runners competed in the ING NYC Marathon and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as part of “Team Autism Speaks,” raising over $560,000 for Autism Speaks. Over the past three years, Autism Speaks marathon teams have raised over $830,000.

In Their Own Words: Wishing and Hoping

While cleaning her house, a mother finds a poem, “My Wish for Sean,” she had written a year ago about her son who has autism. In her essay, she relates the passing of time to how her outlook of her son’s future has changed.
