Deaf community members sew masks to improve communication | WHAM

Rochester, N. Y. (WHAM) – Saturday, members of the deaf community distributed masks at the Rochester Public Market. They made clear masks showing a person’s mouth for better communication. The Rochester Deaf Rotary Chapter and Rochester Deaf Refugees said this will help improve communications while protecting people from spreading COVID-19.

The Rochester Deaf Rotary Chapter and Rochester Deaf Refugees said this will help improve communications while protecting people from spreading COVID-19.

John Haines, treasurer for Rochester Deaf Rotary Club, said, “we need to be able to see the face to be able to read lips to be able to see facial expression. to see if someone is smiling or not smiling it makes for clearer communication.” […]
